Politiniai neramumai Turkijoje prasidėjo gegužės 31 dieną, kai taikus sėdimasis protestas prieš ketinimus išpjauti 600 medžių Stambulo Gezio parke sulaukė brutalaus policijos atsako. Tie veiksmai išprovokavo pasipiktinimą, peraugusį į visą šalį apėmusias demonstracijas. Protestuose dalyvavo ir Batu Boranas, kuris birželio viduryje dėl to susilaukė valdžios represijų, paliko Turkiją ir dabar gyvena įvairiose Vakarų Europos šalyse.
Rugpjūčio pabaigoje jis trumpam apsistojo Lietuvoje. Rugsėjo 2 d., pirmadienį, 18 val. Laisvojo universiteto (LUNI) klausytojams jis papasakos apie birželio revoliuciją Turkijoje, politinę šalies situaciją ir gyvenimą viename gražiausių pasaulio miestų - Stambule. Pokalbis vyks anglų kalba. Jam pasibaigus bus parodytas filmas "Gezi Park Uprising Documentary" su angliškais subtitrais. Susitikimas vyks VU Chemijos fakulteto 125 auditorijoje, Naugarduko g. 24, Vilniuje.

The attempt to demolish the 'Gezi Park', located in Taksim Square in central İstanbul in late May 2013 led to the biggest insurrection in the city's modern history and rapidly spread around the country. What started as an occupation movement to protect the park and prevent the building of a shopping mall rapidly turned into a social/political movement with protests and clashes against the police that lasted until mid-July.
The masses that occupied the streets to protest came from various political backgrounds and social classes; the governing AKP's authoritarian style of ruling and extreme police brutality brought them together. Since mid-July, members of the 'Gezi Movement' have continued to meet in parks all around the country in search of a new politics, mostly in search of tactics to develop local resistance movements.
The lecture will cover the conditions that led to the insurrection followed by a documentary about the resistance that is already accepted as a turning point in the history of the country.
