2011 m. gruodžio 15 d., ketvirtadienį, 18:00 val., du buvę (o gal ir būsimi) studentai – Tomas Marcinkevičius (žurnalistika, Vilnius) ir Blagorodna Apostolovska (politikos mokslai, Skopjė) – kviečia į Laisvojo universiteto (LUNI) diskusiją, kurioje bandys ieškoti studentų apatijos priežasčių. Renginys vyks kūrybinėse "Artotekos" dirbtuvėse, A. Strazdelio g. 1 (greta Bastėjos ir "Tamstos" muzikos klubo), Vilniuje. Dėl akivaizdžių priežasčių ši paskaita/diskusija vyks anglų kalba.

We are living in the times when the truth comes packed in pink boxes. The students, who are supposed to be the ones fighting for the real truth are now apathetically watching the world and waiting for their studies to end so that they could become parts of the job market as fast as possible. The universities, that are supposed to be institutes of social awareness, idealism, rebellion, critical thought, change and knowledge are taking "the truths" that come their way for granted, without any doubt.
Even though there are certain signs of movement, students of 1968 would probably be ashamed of them. In 1968, they used to say that "it's forbidden to forbid"... What do the students say nowadays? Two former (possibly „future“, too) students, Tomas Marcinkevičius (journalism studies, Vilnius) and Blagorodna Apostolovska (political science studies, Skopje) try to look for underground reasons beneath that.
Tomas is keen on a theory: the main reason of university deterioration is apathy, caused by obligation, and this apathy lures students as well as lecturers more and more. According to him, it is mainly caused by misguided beliefs that universities should „prepare us for future and the job market“, as well as social pressure to „be educated“. These criteria come from a tradition and that way are transfered from generation to generation as if they were natural. This way, the situation is far from going better and it will go even worse until the mainstream attitude towards university education changes. Blagorodna thinks Tomas‘ theory is too „Hegelian“, too total and what is seen by him as reason for apathy might not be the reason that caused the apathy at all.

Gyvename laikais, kai tiesa mums pristatoma supakuota rožinėse dėžutėse. Studentai, kurie turėtų būti kovotojai už tikrąją tiesą, į pasaulį žiūri apatiškai ir laukia, kad tik jų studijos greičiau pasibaigtų – kad būtų galima kuo greičiau tapti darbo rinkos dalimi. Universitetai, turintys būti socialumo, idealizmo, maišto, kritinės minties, pokyčių ir žinių institutais, priima „tiesas” už gryną pinigą, su menkomis abejonėmis. Nors negalima būtų teigti, kad nėra jokių studentų judėjimo požymių, 1968-ųjų studentams būtų gėda dėl jų. 1968-ųjų šūkis buvo „Draudžiama drausti”. O ką sako šiandienos studentai?
Tomas iškėlė teoriją: pagrindinė universitetų degradacijos priežastis yra visaapimanti apatija, nulemta reikiamybės ir vis labiau įtraukianti tiek dėstytojus, tiek studentus. Pasak jo, didžioji problema yra neteisingi įsitikinimai, kad „universitetai turi mus paruošti ateičiai ir darbo rinkai” ir socialinis spaudimas „būti išsilavinusiu”. Šie kriterijai gimsta tradicijoje, kuri perduodama iš kartos į kartą taip, lyg tai būtų natūralus ir neišvengiamas dalykas. Situacija ne tik negerės, bet ir kasmet blogės, kol nebus pakeistas požiūris į universitetinį išsilavinimą. Anot Blagorodnos, Tomo teorija yra pernelyg „hėgeliška”, pernelyg totali, o tai, ką jis vadina apatijos priežastimis, gali būti klaidinga.
